I used to be a university radio DJ. I cherished (and nonetheless do) the medium of radio. I as soon as had goals that I’d make my dwelling doing it, however it by no means fairly occurred. As a result of I used to be within the technique of radio and needed to study as a lot as I may about it, I joined the manager employees of WKCO. The great factor a few small faculty and not using a communications main within the Nineties was that you may simply stroll in and turn into an government at an actual radio station. Nobody was listening anyway.

I shortly realized one thing. All of our conferences shortly devolved to the identical place each week. Did you hear the brand new album from [band that was an indie darling five years ago and had made the mainstream]? I can’t imagine how unhealthy it was. They offered out. However the knowledge don’t lie. I noticed the playlist charts. The album that they had been all far too hipster for inevitably acquired essentially the most spins the following week.

Now, (mumble mumble) years later, we see the identical factor occurring in Main League Baseball. Yankees normal supervisor Brian Cashman, who walked in and have become an government on an actual baseball crew within the Nineties, spent a while stridently proclaiming that The Analytics’ new album was terrible and that nobody ever truly favored them. Or one thing like that. And by some means, the Arizona Diamondbacks World Sequence look has been credited to the truth that they performed “small ball.”
