The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum has chosen 9 native artists to arrange paintings for its upcoming “Modern: The Artwork of the Helmet” exhibition which is able to discover the artwork of the racing helmet and the tales behind the designs.

Chosen following an open name for all these have been: Religion Blackwell, Justin Brown, Grant M. Brownlow, Jessica Bowman, April Knauber, Nancy Lee, Shaunt’e Lewis, Austin Polen, and Greg Potter.

The artists have been chosen by a panel comprised of Museum exhibition workforce members and the Indy Arts Council. The group contains artists from Indianapolis, Franklin, Lafayette, and Winamac, with ages starting from 18-65, all of whom work in varied creative mediums.

“Modern” will function 27 helmets, 9 from racing historical past, 9 from present drivers, and 9 from these chosen artists. The exhibition can be led by visitor curator and native Indianapolis artist Amiah Mims.

“I used to be thrilled with the variety of submissions we obtained and the general curiosity within the undertaking,” stated Mims. “It was difficult to slim the checklist right down to 9. Every artist has a distinct model, which is able to give us a singular set of helmets in the long run. I’m excited to work with this group—particularly with these new to the museum and the world of racing on the whole—and I look ahead to seeing the completed helmets as a lot as everybody else.”

The artist-created helmets can be auctioned off upon the exhibition’s shut in early 2023. Funds raised will profit the IMS Museum, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) group, to help the sustainability of the gathering with a proportion going again to the artist of every helmet.

“Modern: The Artwork of the Helmet” is scheduled to open on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum in July 2022.
