“Girls and gents, a Completely satisfied New 12 months to you all. I’d wish to announce the return date for myself, the Infamous Conor McGregor, for the best comeback of all time will happen in Las Vegas for Worldwide Combat Week on June 29. The opponent, Michael Chandler. And the load, Mr. Chandler? 185 kilos (laughs),” McGregor mentioned in his video.
To some shock, if he’s telling the reality, Conor McGregor won’t be combating at UFC 300 in April which many anticipated to be the case. The Irishman is the most important star within the sport, so having him on the historic card would have made lots of sense, however as an alternative, the UFC is opting to have him headline their Worldwide Combat Week card on June 29 on the T-Cellular Area in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Having Michael Chandler because the opponent was at all times essentially the most logical possibility, particularly after the 2 coached TUF in opposition to each other. Nonetheless, not too long ago, Chandler has spoken publicly considering McGregor was making an attempt to keep away from him and making an attempt to get the Nate Diaz, trilogy. However, after all of the back-and-forth, McGregor and Chandler will lastly share the Octagon this summer season.
Conor McGregor (22-6) hasn’t fought since July of 2021 when he broke his leg within the trilogy bout in opposition to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Earlier than that, the Irishman suffered a knockout loss to Poirier at UFC 257 in his return to the Octagon after a year-long break following his first-round TKO over Donald Cerrone.
McGregor is the previous UFC featherweight and light-weight champion and holds notable wins over Eddie Alvarez, Max Holloway, Dustin Poirier, Jose Aldo, and Chad Mendes amongst others.
Michael Chandler (23-8) is coming off a submission loss to Dustin Poirier in November of 2022 to drop him to 2-3 within the UFC. Earlier than the loss to Poirier, Chandler scored a KO win over Tony Ferguson to snap his two-fight dropping streak as he dropped a call to Justin Gaethje, and was knocked out by Charles Oliveira for the vacant UFC light-weight title. In his promotional debut, he TKO’d Dan Hooker on the identical card Poirier knocked out McGregor.
Chandler is the previous Bellator light-weight champion and holds notable wins over Benson Henderson, Eddie Alvarez, Patricky Pitbull, and Brent Primus amongst others.
