The NBA instituted a 65-game minimal rule for normal season awards in hopes of incentivizing participation of gamers in additional video games, however it’s already resulting in points as doubtlessly deserving gamers similar to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Haliburton develop into ineligible.
“You’re all the time gonna have unintended penalties, that’s the very first thing,” NBA govt vp Joe Dumars advised Yahoo Sports activities on Wednesday afternoon. “The second factor, you form of knew that the primary couple of fellows that have been going to get near that mark, it’s going to develop into a problem. So it in all probability was going to develop into a speaking level in some unspecified time in the future.
“It may’ve been a month from now. The quantity is what the quantity is. I’m not shocked, [though].”
Whereas the 65-game rule has obtained criticism, Dumars reiterated that it was collective bargained as a part of the NBA’s new CBA.
“Lest we overlook, this was collectively bargained, gamers’ affiliation, signed off by the homeowners, signed off by the competitors committee,” Dumars stated. “And we have up to date the numbers. We throw loads of numbers round, and on the finish of the day, everyone landed on 65 and stated, ‘You understand what, that is 20 %, 20 % of the season principally. That is truthful.’ Everyone within the ecosystem signed off on this.”
With the NBA tying awards to participant contracts in some cases, some gamers will develop into eligible or ineligible for these strictly because of the existence of this rule. A participant who would have in any other case been voted onto an All-NBA group may have their spot taken by a participant with a lesser season.
