The NBA believes modifications made to the lottery just a few years in the past have improved its difficulty of groups tanking.
Some have recommended eliminating the draft altogether would make for a greater system. Below that system, groups would use cap area or exceptions to signal gamers coming into the league.
“You are coping with a 14% probability of getting the primary decide,” Silver mentioned. “I acknowledge on the finish of the day analytics are what they’re and it isn’t about superstition. A 14% probability is healthier than a 1% probability or a no % probability. However even when it comes to simple odds, it does not profit a group to be absolutely the worst group within the league, and even if you happen to’re one of many poor-performing groups, you are still coping with a 14% probability [of winning the lottery].
“It is certainly one of these items the place there is no excellent answer, however we nonetheless suppose a draft is the appropriate option to rebuild your league over time. We nonetheless suppose it is sensible amongst companion groups, the place a call was made the place the worst-performing groups are capable of restock with the prospects of the most effective gamers coming in. So we’ve not give you a greater system.”
