As a part of The Post’s 2022 NFL Draft preview, we study what the Jets would possibly do at every place. In the present day: safeties Subsequent up: specialists.
There was a number of momentum early within the offseason for the Jets taking Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton within the first spherical. Many individuals across the league felt the Jets liked him, however that discuss has light. Now, it seems unlikely the Jets would use a first-round decide on a security.
Hamilton’s 4.59 40-yard sprint time has harm his inventory. Jets coach Robert Saleh has mentioned a security must be a “unicorn” to take one within the prime 10 of the draft. It doesn’t really feel like Hamilton is that unicorn.
This draft additionally has a powerful second tier of safeties, a lot of whom needs to be accessible within the second spherical for the Jets. Michigan’s Daxton Hill, Georgia’s Lewis Cine, Baylor’s Jalen Pitre and Penn State’s Jaquan Brisker are all considered as late first-round or early second-round picks. This could possibly be a candy spot for GM Joe Douglas to discover a security.
The Jets want to deal with the place. They’d a rotating forged at security final yr and now Marcus Maye is gone by way of free company. The Jets signed Jordan Whitehead, however they nonetheless want a deep security.
If Douglas chooses to attend, there are many safeties to focus on within the center rounds. Cincinnati’s Bryan Cook dinner and Maryland’s Nick Cross could possibly be choices within the third spherical.
